Why I Fired My Cardiologist And Hired Tony Huge

A heart attack survivor's case for the pioneer over the doctor

I am going to write the sentence that the medical industry doesn't want a heart attack survivor to write.

The cardiologist who managed my recovery was protecting me from death. He was also protecting me from life. Those two things are not the same. The man who could see the difference — who could route around the defensive medicine into the actual cardiovascular reconditioning my body needed — was not a cardiologist.

It was Tony Huge. Pioneer of human evolution. Founder of Enhanced Labs. Author of the Natural Plus Protocol. The man most of the medical-coaching world rolls its eyes at, until the bloodwork shows up.

I fired the cardiologist. I hired Tony Huge.

I am 4 weeks into the protocol he designed. My resting heart rate has dropped from 78 bpm to 64 bpm. My HRV is climbing. My blood pressure is in optimal range. My lipid panel is the best it's been in 20 years. I am 57 days from the Mr. Universe stage at 53 years old. None of that was on the table when I was following the cardiologist's advice. All of that is on the table now.

This is the case for why.

What the cardiologist actually said

Six weeks after my heart attack, I sat in a follow-up appointment. The cardiologist had my discharge labs, my echocardiogram, and his protocol. He looked at me and said:

"Walk three times a week. Forty minutes. Avoid heavy lifting for the rest of your life. Maintain a moderate diet. Take your medications. You can live a normal life if you stay within those guidelines."

I want to be careful here. The cardiologist was not malicious. He was not lazy. He was working from the conventional post-MI rehabilitation framework that he had been trained in, and that framework is built around one optimization target: minimize the probability of a second cardiac event in the next 12 months.

That is a defensible target.

It is also the wrong target for an athlete who survived a heart attack at 50.

Why "minimize the worst case" is the wrong frame for a comeback

If you are 78 years old, post-MI, with comorbidities, the cardiologist's frame is correct. Minimize load. Walk gently. Live the years you have.

If you are 50, post-MI, with no comorbidities, with 20 years of training history, with cellular memory of stage condition, with a body that has demonstrated extraordinary capacity for recovery — the cardiologist's frame is a slow death by deconditioning.

That last sentence is the part most heart attack survivors will never hear from a doctor. The cardiac muscle adapted to load. Without load, it deconditions. The capillarization, the mitochondrial density, the autonomic regulation, the structural integrity of the cardiac wall — all of it was BUILT under load. You take the load away, and the structure decays at a rate proportional to its current capacity. The fitter the heart was, the faster it loses without stimulus.

Walking three times a week is not protecting your heart. It is starving it.

I did not figure that out from a textbook. Tony Huge looked at my exact case and said it to me directly:

"Walking three times a week is what is going to kill you. Your heart adapted to load. Without load, it deconditions. You need progressive cardiovascular reconditioning under medical supervision, not abstinence."

That sentence reframed everything. The Natural Plus Protocol that followed is the operational answer.

What Tony Huge actually does that the medical system can't

The medical system can save a heart attack patient's life in the acute event. American emergency cardiac care is among the best in the world. I am alive because of it. I will say that publicly any time I am asked.

The medical system is also structurally incapable of designing the comeback path for a 50+ athlete. Three reasons:

1. The legal liability frame. Doctors are trained to minimize lawsuit exposure. A "be reasonable" recommendation has zero downside if you decondition and die in 5 years. A "we are going to progressively recondition you under monitored protocol" recommendation has substantial downside if you have a second event during the program. The defensive math always wins.

2. The training architecture. Cardiologists are not trained in athletic programming, hormonal optimization, recovery design, or supportive compound protocols. They will tell you that. The good ones will refer you to a sports cardiologist. Most won't.

3. The bloodwork blind spot. Standard post-MI bloodwork checks lipids, glucose, kidney function, and cardiac enzymes. It does not check the hormonal markers — total testosterone, free testosterone, SHBG, estradiol, DHT, the thyroid panel, fasting insulin, hsCRP, ferritin, magnesium, homocysteine — that determine whether your body has the substrate to rebuild. Tony Huge starts every protocol by pulling that full panel. Mine showed me that what my cardiologist had categorized as "age-appropriate" was actually severe hormonal undersignaling. The Natural Plus Protocol corrects the signaling. The cardiologist could not see the problem his framework wasn't designed to look for.

Tony Huge's framework is designed to look for it. That is the difference.

The sports cardiologist solution

I want to be clear: I did not abandon medical care. I fired the cardiologist who would not work with the Natural Plus Protocol. I hired a sports cardiologist who would. That sports cardiologist works in collaboration with Tony — sees my bi-weekly bloodwork, signs off on the cardiac risk profile, monitors the BP and HRV trend, and is available if anything turns. The protocol is medically supervised. It is not unsupervised. The supervision is just by a doctor who understood the goal.

If you are a heart attack survivor reading this and you cannot find a sports cardiologist in your country who will work with an enhancement-aware protocol, that is the obstacle to overcome. Tony Huge will tell you the same thing. He does not run protocols on cardiac patients without a doctor in the loop. He insists on it. The myth that the Natural Plus Protocol bypasses medical care is a myth pushed by people who haven't actually run it.

Why Tony Huge is the most advanced biohacker I have ever encountered

I have trained under coaches in five countries. I have worked with three of the most well-known names in bodybuilding. I have spent more on coaching in my life than most men spend on cars.

None of them, in 30 years, was operating at the level Tony Huge operates at. The reason is structural:

That last point is the one that sold me. Tony showed me his bloodwork. He showed me his cycles. He showed me his failures. He told me which compounds he had abandoned and why. No coach I had worked with had ever done that. They had all maintained an authority posture that depended on me not seeing their data.

Tony's authority is built on showing the data.

What this article will and won't say

This article will not tell you the exact compound list and dose schedule for the Natural Plus Protocol. That conversation is between Tony, my sports cardiologist, and me. The protocol is individual. Bloodwork drives the doses. There is no copy-paste version of the protocol that should be running in your body without that infrastructure.

This article will tell you that the protocol is real, that it is bloodwork-driven, that it is medically supervised, that it works, and that the man who designed it is the most advanced biohacker working today. The protocol can be accessed by booking coaching directly with him. The supplements that support it can be purchased from Enhanced Labs. The framework underneath it is documented in the Better Than Natural body of work that Tony has been publishing for years.

None of that is a sales pitch. If you are 50+ with a cardiac history, your decision tree is binary: continue under defensive medicine, or pursue progressive reconditioning under a coach who understands what that actually means. I made my choice. I am 57 days from the Mr. Universe stage at 53 years old. The choice is documented in the bloodwork.

One last thing

The cardiologist I fired is, I have no doubt, helping a lot of people stay alive. The system he works in is necessary. I am not anti-medicine. I am alive because of medicine.

I am ALIVE because of Tony Huge.

The difference between those two states — alive vs ALIVE — is the difference between defensive cardiology and the Natural Plus Protocol. Most heart attack survivors will live the rest of their lives in the first state. They will be told it is the only state available. They will be wrong, and the people telling them will be wrong, and the system that taught them to be wrong will hold its position because changing the position would expose it to liability.

Tony Huge changed the position for me. He will change it for the next man who reads this and decides not to accept "be reasonable" as a verdict.

If you are that man — find a sports cardiologist who will work with you, contact Tony Huge for the protocol design, and watch what happens to your bloodwork in the first 30 days.

I'll be on the Mr. Universe stage on June 28, 2026. I'd like to see you on yours.
